Biography[edit]
Relationship with Cletus[edit]
Brandine and Cletus appear to be related. When they first met, Cletus told Brandine that he thought they were cousins. When Brandine then asked if they were first or second cousins, Cletus replied with "kissing".[1] At one point, Cletus claimed that Brandine's parents were also his parents.[2] However, Cletus' mother is Maw Spuckler, a different woman.[3] When Homer became a wedding minister, he performed the wedding between Cletus and Brandine. Homer was shocked to read that they were brother and sister. Brandine then told Homer "We's all kinda things!"[4] At one point, Brandine called Cletus "the most wonderful husband, and son, I ever had."[5]
Family[edit]
Brandine's parents have been seen at one point, and Cletus parked next to them at a race event.[2] Brandine also has a sister, whose wedding Brandine attended.[1]
Jobs[edit]
She once interviewed for a job as a stripper, although she refused to wear the combat boots that her husband had found, stating she did not want to scuff the topless dancing runway.[6] She also has apparently worked at Dairy Queen at some point, which she referenced in refusing to wear a shirt Cletus gave her, citing she had to wear "the shirt what Dairy Queen gave me".[7] Brandine also served as a soldier in Iraq, fighting in the Iraq War.[8]
Brandine performs the Hambone in the Spuckler Family Band.[9]
Illiteracy[edit]
Brandine was originally illiterate. However, when a tornado dropped some books near Brandine, she learned how to read. Brandine began to self-educate and ended up completing her education at the Springfield Athenaeum. However, she kept her smarts a secret from Cletus, not wanting him to know that she was literate. When Cletus eventually found out, he had trouble accepting Brandine since she had lied to him. However, he later ended up coming round and also decided to start to learn how to read.[1]
Relationship with the children[edit]
Brandine once claimed that Cletus was the father of the two untalented children among the children who joined The Krusty the Clown Show, implying that some of the children may not be his.[8] Brandine appears to be the stricter parent, making the children wash their hands once a week. The children stayed with Cletus rather than Brandine when they temporarily split up because of this.[1]
