Season 9 is the ninth broadcast season of The Simpsons. It originally ran on Fox from September 21, 1997, with "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson", to May 17, 1998, with "Natural Born Kissers". The season was mostly made up of production season 5F episodes, with three rollover episodes from production season 4F and two episodes from 3G also airing. Mike Scully served as the showrunner for most of the season while Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein served as the showrunners for the 4F episodes, Al Jean and Mike Reiss served as the showrunners for the 3G episodes, and David Mirkin served as showrunner for 5F24 and 5F23.

In "Fly vs. Fly", Homer buys a transporter that Bart uses to switch bodies with a housefly, and in "Easy-Bake Coven" Marge is accused of witchcraft in a Puritan rendition of 1649 Springfield.

When their anniversary dinner is a flop and their love life seems lackluster, Homer and Marge try to spice it up, and end up going back to the golf course where Bart was conceived. Meanwhile, Lisa and Bart use Grampa's mine detector to find treasure, and they find an alternate ending to Casablanca.

Release[edit]

The Complete Ninth Season box set was released in Region 1 on December 19, 2006, Region 2 on January 29, 2007, and Region 4 on March 21, 2007. The set was released in two different forms: a Lisa-shaped head to match the Homer, Marge and Maggie shaped heads of the previous two sets and also a standard rectangular shaped box. Like the eighth season box set, both versions are available for sale separately.
