Pardon My Clunker is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #164.

Homer is waiting at the drive-in at Krusty Burger, but just when it's his turn, the car breaks down. Homer tries to fix it but can't, and gets angry. Bart and Lisa are watching The Itchy & Scratchy Show when Homer comes home. Homer tells Marge that his car has broken again and the family cannot afford to fix it. Marge then suggests that the family only needs one car, but Homer doesn't accept the proposal. That night Homer dreams that he is eaten by Al Gore because he drives a car that is not environmentally friendly. The next morning at breakfast Homer talks about his dream, and Lisa tells him that the government offers rebates to those who buy environmentally friendly cars, so Homer takes the children to buy a new car. They make their first stop at the Springfield Motormall and find the perfect car, but it is too expensive. Homer sees a television advertisement for a car that suits him, an Umbriago, but when he test drives the car, he discovers it's too small for him. Next, Homer goes to Flesk, but when he learns that he must put the car together, he leaves the dealer.
Homer visits Gil after seeing an ad for the electric car, Clamb, and buys a car from him after giving Gil his old car. Homer comes home and tells everyone the news. Lisa tells Homer that the nearest refueling point for electric cars is in Shelbyville, and Homer discovers that the car can handle just a tour between Shelbyville and Springfield and back, but then he runs out of fuel. Homer then goes to complain to Gil and finds out that he sold his old car to Cletus. Cletus has taken the car to the demolition derby, and Homer gets there with his electric car when the race starts. The derby is in full swing and it comes down to Cletus and Homer. After Cletus runs into the donut shop, Homer is declared the winner. Homer comes home with his old car and says he switched cars with Cletus. They also received cash prizes, just enough to repair their old car. Marge recalls that they must pay for Homer's electric car, but Homer reminds her that it will take five years until the first payment. Marge wonders what Cletus will do with the electric car, and it turns out that he has made it into a TV room, because the car has a built-in TV.
