The seventeenth season of The Simpsons ran for 22 episodes; the first being "The Bonfire of the Manatees" which aired on September 11, 2005, and the last being "Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play", on May 21, 2006.

One episode in this season, "The Seemingly Never-Ending Story" won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming less than One Hour). At the 34th Annie Awards, episode writer Ian Maxtone-Graham won the award for "Best Writing in an Animated Television Production."[1]Kelsey Grammer won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for his voice portrayal of Sideshow Bob in "The Italian Bob".[2] The DVD and Blu-ray boxset was released in December 2014.[3] and also features Sideshow Bob on the cover.[4]

Homer's latest gamble with the Mafia goes awry, and when Marge walks in on the filming of a porn movie in their own house, she takes off and ends up caring for manatees with a doctor, leaving a forlorn Homer to shack up with Santa's Little Helper's cousins in order to find her.

But Lisa is profoundly moved by the re-installation, since she has a front-row seat from her bedroom window, and it all culminates to her having nightmares and moving in with Homer and Marge.

Kirk and Luann reconcile after some heavy talking at a pox party (don't ask), but there's a difference - they are unknowingly being selfish and ignoring Milhouse, which leaves him down in the dumps. Mischievous as always, he and Bart conjure up a plan that inadvertently leads the parents of both children to split up - again!

In "B.I.: Bartificial Intelligence", the family replaces Bart, who is in coma, with a robot son, but when Bart wakes up he wants revenge on the robot. In "Survival of the Fattest", Mr. Burns invites many of the townspeople to go hunting, but Mr Burns plans hunting the townspeople. In the end Homer is the last one alive, but for how long? In "I've Grown a Costume on Your Face", a witch turns everyone in Springfield into their costumed characters, and Maggie, being dressed as a witch and therefore becoming a witch herself, is the only one who can break the spell.

Meanwhile, Milhouse teaches Lisa Italian, and Lisa begins developing unrequited feelings...

But it goes errant and accidentally breaks a window and falls on top of Willie's shack, flattening it, and, feeling sorry, Bart takes him in, and Lisa surprisingly turns his life around by transforming him into a pompous gentleman.

But some bullying leads to Lisa breaking, however some incongruous support from her brother lifts her spirits again.

Lisa heavily protests against this, and it even goes as far as she being arrested for teaching evolution to a group of schoolfriends; Homer is deemed the "missing link" in evolution.
