"Marge the Meanie" is the twentieth episode of broadcast season 33 of The Simpsons and the seven hundred twenty-sixth episode overall. It originally aired on May 8, 2022. The episode was written by Megan Amram and directed by Timothy Bailey.
"Marge the Meanie" was dedicated in memory of animator Ian Wilcox, who died on April 30.

Synopsis[edit]
- When Marge encounters her old teacher, Bart is surprised to learn that she is afraid of his mom. Bart then discovers Marge's past as the class bad kid. While Bart gains new respect for his mom and elevates his prank game, Marge doesn't want her son to inherit the same reputation she has carried through life. Meanwhile, Lisa gets Homer interested in vegetarian cooking.
Plot[edit]
At the Springfield Retirement Castle, Grampa gathers the residents to make an announcement: they will march to victory against their shuffleboard rivals, the Golden Exits Retirement Farm team. The scene shifts to the Springfield YMCA, where the match is set to take place.
The Simpson family attends the game, and the team starts off losing, while Marge notices a woman who keeps staring at her. The team eventually wins, and as the family leaves the building, Marge approaches the woman, only for her to flee in terror, calling her "Marge the Meanie" and blaming her for ruining her life. When a train delays the bus the woman boards, Marge explains that she was her old principal.
Bart is thrilled to finally have someone in the family to be proud of as a former bad kid. Patty and Selma tell Marge and Bart about Principal York, prompting Marge to recall how she had to switch to a worse school after seventh grade, where she struggled with bullies. During a brief conversation with the principal, Marge accidentally knocked her into a bin with her cola can.
After Chalmers escorted the principal away, the other students began accepting Marge. She continued pranking, including hoisting the principal's shirt with the flagpole rope and defacing the food pyramid with graffiti reading "They all suck!" and signing it "El Margo." Bart bonds with her and hugs her.
At The Android's Dungeon, Comic Book Guy acts rudely to customers, prompting Marge and Bart to prank him by coating his drink with slippery baby oil, causing him to spill cola on his belongings. They laugh about it until dinner, where the family speculates that Bart's pranking nature may come from Marge.
At Moe's Tavern, Homer wonders if he shares any traits with his kids. A vision in his beer foam leads him to try bonding with Lisa. At the store, Marge and Bart prank Helen Lovejoy in retaliation for her snobbish comments about their purchases.
Meanwhile, Homer samples vegan food with Lisa, but dislikes it. After admitting this to Marge, he is pranked by her and Bart—his sausage turns out to be a ground-up kickball. Marge begins to have second thoughts about their pranks and confides in Homer.
The next day at Sprawl-Mart, they are denied entry due to Mr. Burns not wanting to shop near poor people. When Burns exits, they prank him, but it goes too far—he is hit by several cars and electrocuted by power lines. Bart flees the scene, and Marge visits a therapist, while Burns decides to dedicate his remaining days to spreading evil even harder after his near-death experience.
Marge tries to quit pranking, but when Bart accuses her of giving up on him, she agrees to do one last prank. Meanwhile, while cooking together, Homer and Lisa discover they share allergies—and a kind heart.
At the Golden Exits Retirement Farm, Marge pranks Ms. York with an ink-spraying flower bouquet. When Bart enters, the principal appears to suffer a heart attack. They call an ambulance, and Bart prays for her survival, promising never to prank again. However, it is revealed to be a prank by Marge and Ms. York to teach Bart a lesson.
In the end, Marge and Bart prank each other one more time at bedtime, and Marge writes apology letters to everyone they pranked.
