St. Patrick's Day is a The Simpsons Comic Strips story that was first published in 2000.
Synopsis
- Kent Brockman of Channel 6 News reports on St. Patrick's Day in Springfield.
Plot
Kent Brockman is at Ireland Town for Springfield's annual St. Patrick's Day festivities. He reports that the district features newly refurbished shops reminiscent of those in James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake. Marge is shopping at Sham Rocks, despite Lisa's reluctance to celebrate St. Patrick's Day by buying trinkets. However, Marge tells her that it could be worse, and Homer tells Marge and Lisa that they need to get to the Duff Green-Beer Gardens for the dirty limerick contest.
As the St. Patrick's Day parade proceeds through town, Patty and Selma complain to Comic Book Guy that the "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" shirts he sold them do not work. When Comic Book Guy insists that they do, Patty attempts to kiss him to prove it. Brockman then introduces the parade marshal, Paddy O' Lantern, the lovable lepre-clown. Brockman states that children especially enjoy his antics, but Lisa disputes this, calling him a grotesque insult.
Kent Brockman then tells viewers that Irish food is the 22nd most popular ethnic cuisine in America, before eating at Oh, Danny Soy, Springfield's best Irish vegetarian restaurant. He concludes his report in front of several drunks and tells viewers that he will return tomorrow to cover the inevitable post-parade riot.
