During a sold-out Springfield Elementary School recital, much of the orchestra was absent because many students were undergoing appendectomies. As a result, the performance was reduced to Lisa Simpson on saxophone, Martin Prince on triangle, and Ralph Wiggum attempting to play a flute. The audience initially reacted negatively to their rendition of "Stars and Stripes Forever," but Lisa transformed the piece with a jazz-inspired solo, earning enthusiastic applause.[1]
Once, the band was given a chance to play at any event, in which Edith Knickertwist paid $4000 for the band to play at her 'event'.[2]
