Springfield Elementary Poetry Competition is a The Simpsons Comic Strips story that was first published in 2001.
Synopsis[edit]
- Springfield Elementary holds a poetry competition that is judged by Mrs. Glick, Jasper, and Moleman.
Plot[edit]
Springfield Elementary School is holding a poetry competition with Mrs. Glick, Jasper, and Moleman as the judges. In Principal Skinner's opening speech, he accidentally rhymes "not mention" with "detention." He then announces Ralph Wiggum as the first contestant. Ralph starts reading about his favorite wrestler, The Rock. Skinner interrupts Ralph because "the person I most admire" was the previous week's assignment. Nelson is the next contestant, who reads a poem that begins with "She ran naked through the hillside woods." Skinner interrupts Nelson's reading, despite him protesting that he put a lot of work into it and that it was a complex piece about the machinations of love and family. Next up is Lisa, who sings about Springfield instead of reciting poetry. After Lisa, Bart starts to recite a ribald limerick, but Skinner interrupts him and declares an end to the contest, despite Martin not having read his poem about raisin roundees yet. At the end of the contest, Jasper hands Skinner the trophy because the judges liked his accidental rhyme about detention.
