Rover is a Bull Terrier who was determined to attack Bart.

History[edit]

When Bart was having a lucky day, he came across Rover and thought that he would make a new four-legged friend. However, Rover attacked Bart instead and chased him home. As Bart thought he had reached safety, Rover attacked him through the mail slot and ripped his clothes off. The next day, Bart tried to pull a prank involving a fake spider on Lisa and Janey. However, Rover was waiting for him behind the hedge and attacked Bart once more. One night, when Rover chased Bart home again, Homer opened the door to see him acting nice and cuddly. Rover allowed Homer to pick him up and started to lick Homer before he turned to Bart and growled menacingly.

Rover continued to follow Bart around, sticking to the window of the house to watch him, attacking him on the school bus, and watching him from the see-saw at school. Due to the dog following Bart around, the Simpsons even began to feed him, with Marge baking Bart-shaped cookies for him. After school, Bart was chased by Rover once more when he threw his copy of America's 2nd Best Short Stories into the dog's mouth. He then chased Bart through a dog show, where he won the award for most vicious dog. Bart then escaped into a rich neighborhood of Springfield and climbed over the gate of Buck McCoy's mansion. Buck McCoy introduced himself to Bart and then showed him a trick to use on the dog to calm him, which McCoy also said worked on David O. Selznick. The trick worked and Rover became calm and friendly towards Bart.

After Buck McCoy told Bart to never bother him again, Rover went back to being vicious towards Bart and chased him down the street once more.[1]

The dog appeared in a documentary about holes. Rover dug a hole, which Rainier Wolfcastle said was a ritual as old as time itself.[2]
