Al Jolson was a singer, comedian and actor, once dubbed "The World's Greatest Entertainer". Jolson was also a prominent protester for racial equality.
History
When Homer demonstrated outsideSpringfield Nuclear Power Plant Mr. Burns told Smithers that he hasn't seen anything like that since Jolson, and asked him who Homer was.[1]
Mr. Burns wanted Waylon Smithers to get Al Jolson for a private concert for himself and Marge. Smithers reminded Burns that he was dead last time he asked that, then Burns remembered and told him to get Tom Jones.[2]
