Covercraft first came together so that Homer, Reverend Lovejoy, Kirk, and Dr. Hibbert could perform in one garage at a time. However, there was no vocalist for the group until Apu came along. Band members were hesitant at first but, when he began singing "Hopin' for a Dream" by Sungazer, were impressed. The band began singing at many festivals across Springfield. Sungazer soon discovered Apu and decided to persuade him to join for the band's final tour, leaving the band without a singer.
