Synopsis[edit]

"Grampa is accused of a crime. Meanwhile, Kent Brockman questions his career."

Plot[edit]

At 2am in the morning, Homer is in the kitchen, trying to eat ham, when Lisa shows up holding her phone, listening to a podcast and pondering why someone is lying on it, and the next morning, at breakfast she shows up with bags under her eyes, having had no sleep, making Marge concerned.

At night, they found her under a blanket, listening to a crime podcast, 'Til Murder Do Us Part. To try and understand her, Marge listens to them during the night, and shows up at Lisa's bedroom door with bloodshot eyes.

They start listening to podcast together and discussing them, and when Homer and Bart are going to visit Grampa, they go to a live podcast recording. When Homer and Bart arrive at Grampa's door they find a bolo hanging from it, and when they open the door, they find him kissing with Vivienne St. Charmaine, his new girlfriend. The two leave to have fun while Homer and Bart are mesmerized by the new love.

At the podcast live show at the Springfield Playhouse, Tabitha Shingle is hosting the show, talking about James Reeb's case. Kent Brockman arrives at the theater thinking that the podcasts wouldn't attract much attention, but instead finds it filled with people cheering.

Kent returns home just to find his whole family listening to podcasts. At the Channel 6 News, Kent reports the breaking news that Vivienne has gone missing from a cruise and Grampa is accused of murder, before announcing that he is abandoning TV and joining the podcast craze on his Guilty Grampa podcast.

At the Streamteam Podcast Studio, Kent starts broadcasting his podcast, where he interviews Agnes Skinner, her reporting of hearing Vivienne saying "Abe, don't" just before the splash that occurred on the cruise. He then interviews Chief Wiggum, with him saying Grampa said he doesn't remember what happened.

The family are gathered on the couch, listening to the podcast, when Grampa appeared at the window, scaring them. He tells them the story of how it happened. When he goes to the bathroom, the whole town starts accusing him and throwing bricks at the window.

They decide to call in Kent to change his mind on Grampa being a murder, but many fail or report some bad stories about him. At Streami's, Yeardley Smith brings her concerns about podcasts accusing real life people of murder to Kent but he shrugs it off.

Kent finds a reason for the murder, Vivienne left all her money to him on the life insurance policy, and Grampa gets convinced to turn himself in for the murder. At the trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison at the Springfield Penitentiary, but Dr. Hibbert shows up at the Simpson House with news proving his innocence.

To make it public they take it to the Shampoo Shuttle Poditorium, where Kent host his live podcast show. They show how with a tiny pod, used during a couple's colonoscopy, they traced her movements in the 24 hours after it, how she swam to the beach after falling off the boat and went to Mexico, faking her death.

Despite not wanting to, Kent reports the truth to the people, before announcing he's going back to news reporting. Grampa is upset after she left him, but after leaving Moe's Tavern, he meets Vivienne on the sidewalk, where she reveals it was all a plan that they plotted. But seeing that it fails, they hid back in the place where people wouldn't notice them, back at the Retirement Castle.

Production[edit]

Bill Simmons was originally going to guest star in the episode.[1] However, his dialogue wasn't recorded due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2] Billie Eilish was also planned to guest star and sing the intro music to the Guilty Grampa podcast. However, the part was cut for time and the producers never reached out to her.[3]
