Season 22 is the twenty-second broadcast season of The Simpsons. It originally ran on Fox from September 26, 2010, with "Elementary School Musical", to May 22, 2011, with "The Ned-liest Catch". The season was mostly made up of production season NABF episodes, with seven rollover episodes from production season MABF also airing. Al Jean served as the showrunner for the season.

The last episode of the season, "The Ned-Liest Catch", will open a contest that will change the lives of two characters.
+
The season ended with a fan poll on thesimpsons.con to decide on the fate of the relationship between Ned Flanders and Edna Krabappel, which was known as "Nedna", with the result being revealed in the season 23 premiere, "The Falcon and the D'ohman". The result of the poll was to have the characters get together.

When Ray is ready to fly, Homer decides to enter it in a bird race, which makes Danica Patrick appears in his dreams. However, plans go awry when Santa's Little Helper eats Ray. Thinking that Bart will need help to overcome the loss, Marge and Homer take him to a therapy session with Dr. Thurston, who diagnoses that the only cure for Bart's sadness is getting rid of the family dog. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Springfield, but while Marge gets in the holiday spirit, it's bah humbug for the rest of the family. Disappointed that she is alone spreading the holiday cheer, Marge sends a letter to Martha Stewart (guest voice Stewart) to help her save the family Christmas. Martha comes to the rescue and transforms the house into the North Pole chalet Marge has always dreamed of, but when the family is noticeably absent from the perfectly trimmed holiday home, she realizes that it's Homer and the kids who make the holidays special. Meanwhile, the Simpsons get ready to sneak away for a tropical holiday vacation in Hawaii, but surprise visitors Mr. Burns and Moe's new girlfriend, Katy Perry (guest-starring as herself in a special live-action sequence) delay their getaway.

After a field trip to the desert, Lisa discovers that a desert flower mysteriously makes typically combative creatures get along, so she brings some of the flowers home as a souvenir. When Grampa moves in with the family after getting kicked out of the retirement home, Homer secretly tests the flower on Grampa, who is instantly cured of his crankiness. A pharmaceutical representative (guest voice Herzog) gets word of Homer’s discovery and quickly tries to replicate the flower into a drug, using Grampa as the primary guinea pig. But when the pills get in the wrong hands and are sold on the black market, unexpected side effects of the new drug take an eye-popping toll on the elderly citizens of Springfield, and the Simpsons learn that their new medical cure comes with major consequences.

Lisa tries to return a key to Springfield Elementary, but she stumbles upon a abandoned classroom in the basement. She attempts to tell Skinner about the room, but when she returns, a bookcase blocks the dusty walls and the cobwebs leading to the room. Lisa becomes suspicious about a writing on the blackboard which involved Bus 23, a former bus used by the school on a field trip that never returned. Lisa and Bart, who has just won the key to the city, team up with Homer, who has stolen the Duff blimp, to try and find this mysterious Bus 23, which is submerged below the icy waters of the river.
