Officer Goodman is a child welfare officer employed by the Department of Child Welfare in the Springfield Child Welfare Board.

History

He participated in the investigation of the Simpson family after Principal Seymour Skinner reported concerns about the children's condition. Accompanied by a female caseworker, Goodman inspected the Simpson residence and documented what he considered evidence of neglect. After finding the house in disarray and observing Maggie Simpson drinking from the family dog's water bowl, he concluded that the children should be removed from the home. Goodman then placed Bart, Lisa, and Maggie in the temporary care of Ned and Maude Flanders.

Goodman served as an instructor in the court-ordered "Family Skills" course attended by Homer and Marge Simpson and other parents. During the classes, he taught basic household and parenting practices, emphasizing communication and proper care of children. After Homer and Marge successfully completed the course and passed the required drug tests, Goodman approved their progress, and their children were returned to them.
