- The episode title is a reference to the film Paranormal Activity.
- "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes plays in the car on the ride to school. Lisa later performs the song at Ned's wedding.
- The older women inject themself with Botox.
- Pam choked on a baby in a king cake during Mardi Gras. Ned saved her life.
- A sign on Sprawl-Mart says "still not a parody of Walmart."
- Skoochers shoes are a parody of Skechers.
- I'll Have What She's Having: Celebrity Face Menu is a reference to the punchline in the fake orgasm scene in the movie When Harry Met Sally..., and Meg Ryan's rumored plastic surgery.
- Coincidentally, the movie was directed by Rob Reiner, who died on the day the episode aired.
- Marge compares Lisa to The Ugly Duckling.
