- The episode title is a reference to the 1991 film Barton Fink.
- Games and items seen at Fun for Your Lives! Game Store include:
- Cosmic Wars CCG, a parody of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game.
- Battlehammer 400,000, a parody of Warhammer 40,000.
- A Beholder statue from Dungeons & Dragons is seen next to a sign saying "Please leash your Beholder."
- The Gentrifiers of Cattan, a parody of The Settlers of Catan.
- A Rubik's Cube.
- Accountants of the Hanseatic League, a reference to the Hanseatic League, a 13th to 17th century trade association in Central and Northern Europe.

- Bart apologizes to Frink for pulling a "Leeroy Jenkins." Leeroy Jenkins was a player character in World of Warcraft created by Ben Schulz. While his guild were discussing a battle plan, Schulz had Jenkins run into battle while shouting his own name.
- The quadratic formula is being used on Frink's laboratory chalkboard.
- The song "Weird Friendship" is a parody of "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo.
