Synopsis[edit]
- After Homer is kidnapped, Ned tries to steal the money back from St. Giles Orphanage in exchange for Homer's life. However, Homer manages to escape from his kidnappers. Three years later, Ned cuts himself off from everyone and goes into hiding.

Chapter IV: Tree Money, Where Art Thou?[edit]

Marge goes to the Springfield Police Station to report that Costas is the one who kidnapped Homer. Chief Wiggum refuses to take action, but Marge realizes Costas is using The Rich Texan's car. Meanwhile, Ned worries about how to save Homer and searches for a way to come up with the ransom, reflecting back on the past.
Ned and his grandfather are at the Lachman's Barber Shop and Delicatessen when the Szyslak Brothers mafia arrive and appear to start a fight. After the barber removes young Ned, the brothers give the barber a bribe. Ned's grandfather punches one of the brothers out of the window to keep his reputation, then joins them for drinks at a pub before earning his place in a deal at the Prestige Motel.
At the motel, a deal between the brothers and the Capital City Mob goes wrong, and a gunfight breaks out over the money.
