Montgomery Burns is a wildcat industrialist in a story told by Grampa.

History

In 1897, Montgomery Burns owned half of Springfield. Burns had an agreement with Joe Quimby, who owned the other half, that no businesses would open in town. However, Quimby sold off his half of town, and a new business run by Apu, the Kwik-E Dry Goods Store, opened. When Montgomery Burns heard about this, he went back to Springfield to shoot the sheriff for letting this happen.

Sheriff Wiggum played a card game against Homer, who won Wiggum's badge in the game, becoming the new sheriff. Burns arrived in town with his assistant, Smitty, and started the duel with Sheriff Homer. Montgomery Burns started the countdown but skipped "two" and shot Homer. Homer went down, seemingly dead, and the townspeople chased Burns out of town, with Burns saying they hadn't heard the last of him.
