- Krusty tells one of his aides to bet $5,000 on the Los Angeles Lakers and another aide to hire Kenny G to play for him in the elevator.
- Krusty asks his accountant, Bill, if he sent a thousand roses to Bea Arthur's grave. His accountant then tries to tell Krusty that she's still alive.
- George Carlin calls Krusty to inform him that he's starting a lawsuit against Krusty for stealing "Seven Words You Can't Say on TV" from him. Krusty decides to settle for $10,000. He then gets a call from Steve Martin and decides to send him $10,000 rather than answer it.
- Krusty burns a copy of Action Comics #1, which featured the first appearance of Superman.
- Krusty had his own version of Monopoly made, Krusty's Monopoly. The patent was denied for it.
- A Krusty troll doll is seen among the various bits of Krusty merchandise.
- Johnny Unitas presents the Lady Krusty infomercials.
- Homer obsessively sculpts a circus tent out of mashed potatoes at the dinner table. Roy Neary does the same thing with the Devils Tower in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, sculpting it in various media throughout the film, starting with mashed potatoes at the dinner table.
- Homer imagines Marge singing along to "Entrance of the Gladiators" by Julius Fučík.
- Lisa says that Homer once tried to pass himself off as Tom Bosley. Homer then tells Lisa that she wasn't complaining when he got "this close" to Chachi. Bart then asks Lisa, "What's a Chachi?"
- Krusty's Clown College was formerly Willie Nelson's house.
- The way in which Krusty pronounces Cucamonga is a reference to The Jack Benny Show.
- The Krusty Burglar is a parody of the Hamburglar from McDonald's McDonaldland franchise.
- Dick Cavett is one of the hosts for the Regional ACE Awards. He says that he knows Woody Allen.
- Homer, as Krusty, announces that old Starsky and Hutch reruns won the award for "most promising new series on cable." A voice-over then announces that the "son of the guy who played Huggy Bear", referring to Antonio Fargas, would accept the award.
- Dick Cavett name-drops Groucho Marx in conversation with Homer. Homer then threatens Cavett, saying that he would be having dinner with Groucho tonight if he didn't "beat it."
- Krusty took all the money he made franchising his name and bet it against the Harlem Globetrotters. Krusty then said that he thought the Generals were due.
- Fat Tony says, "We need more ammo. Let's go to Big 5." Big 5 Sporting Goods is a real store and does sell ammunition.
- When trying to get out of trouble with the Springfield Mafia, Homer claims to be Joe Valachi. Louie then asks if he's the same Joe Valachi who squealed to the Senate committee about organized crime in what became known as the Valachi hearings.
- Homer also tries to claim that he is Benedict Arnold, and Legs asks if he's the "same Benedict Arnold who plotted to surrender West Point to the hated British?"
- When Homer and Krusty are entertaining the Mafia by riding the tricycle, Homer hits his head on several hanging wine glasses. As his head hits each glass, the ringing sounds like "Love Theme" from The Godfather, to the delight of the assembled Mafia members.
- In a previous episode, "Homer Goes to College", when Bart learned that Mr. Burns wanted Homer to go to college, he asked, "Barber or Clown?"
- This episode contained Matt Groening's idea that Krusty was secretly Homer, due to their appearances.
- Some of the things Krusty burns to light his cigarettes are: a $100 bill, an Action Comics #1, and a pearl necklace.
- As Krusty showcases the amusing location names, the word "Seattle" has an "A" after it for a couple of frames.
- When Homer first arrives at Milhouse's birthday party, in the first two scenes, Janey is off-model and colored in the normal Simpsons yellow. Wendell is also yellow instead of his usual white.
- When Chief Wiggum pulls Homer over but lets him off the hook thinking he is Krusty, Wiggum has black hair.
- When Krusty and Homer spin in the loop, Don Vittorio's hair is the same color as Fat Tony's.
