Adlai Stevenson II was an American politician and diplomat.
Stevenson was Governor of Illinois from 1949 to 1953 and the Democratic nominee for President in 1952 and again in 1956, but lost both elections to Dwight D. Eisenhower.
In 1961 he was appointed by President John F. Kennedy to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations which continued during the Johnson administration until he died in 1965 in London, England from a heart attack during meetings with the British government about the war in Vietnam.
History
Adlai Stevenson was in the film The Moon of Earth. The narrator said that "Democratic hopeful" Adlai Stevenson thought that man would walk on the moon one day, and then cut to a clip where Stevenson said that he had no objections to man walking on the Moon.
