Tom Sawyer was a young boy in the USA. He appears in a tall tale by a singing railroad hobo.
History
The singing railroad hobo told a story about Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Huck and Tom were told to paint a fence, but they managed to bully the other children into doing it for them. Meanwhile, Huck and Becky Thatcher ended up holding hands, which caused Becky's father Judge Thatcher to force them to marry each other. During the wedding, Huck got a pig to replace him as he and Tom Sawyer escaped down the Mississippi River. Huck and Tom then both became wanted criminals.
After the pair escaped Missouri and entered "Missoura," they visited a local shop for supplies. After leaving the shop, they found out they were wanted. The townspeople then found them and chased them down the river once more. Huck and Tom tried to escape on a boat but were discovered and captured as they fell into the river. They were then taken back to town where they were executed for their crimes before being lowered into coffins.[1]

Behind the Laughter
As Lisa points out before the story begins, this isn't an actual tall tale, but a story that the hobo tells based on Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
