• The segment is based on The Onion's cartoon strip "Painful Procedural".
• "America the Beautiful" by Samuel A. Ward plays.
• Monsters represent several events:
  • A werewolf represents the trade wars.
  • A zombie represents Pronouns.
  • Death represents the 2025 Southwest United States measles outbreak.
• The Onion's political cartoonist, Ward Sutton, has a cartoon bubble saying "The Watching Dead", a reference to the TV series The Walking Dead.

The Last Days of Crisco

• The segment is a parody of Jaws and The Blob.
• The poster is a parody Smokey and the Bandit.
