The Enola Gay is an USAAF B-29 Superfortress that dropped Little Boy, the first atomic bomb used in warfare, on the Japanese city of Hiroshima during World War II.
History[edit]
During the Springfield Air Show, Colonel Leslie Hapablap frequently exclaimed, "Sweet Enola Gay, son!" as part of his military slang. Sideshow Bob later repeated the phrase while impersonating the colonel to deceive a guard and gain access to a restricted hangar containing a nuclear weapon.[1]
The plane was exhibited at the Springfield Air and Space Museum during Mr. Burns' private power plant employee party.[2]
Behind the Laughter[edit]
The Enola Gay was parodied, as the "I'm On-A-Rolla Gay", in the episode "Bart the Fink".
The Enola Gay is exhibited in the Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C., an annex of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
