Synopsis[edit]

After taking prescribed steroids for a medical issue from contaminated water at Quiet Rivers, Lisa and Bart gain weight. While Lisa suffers from body anxiety, made worse by Marge calling her "chunky", Bart becomes popular with the bullies.

Plot[edit]

Homer wakes the entire family up to get ready to visit the Riot Rivers water park, where he used to work with Lenny and Carl and had a bad reputation, resulting in lawsuits and injuries.

However, when they arrive, the place has changed its name to Quiet Rivers—a completely rebranded park focused on peace, quiet, and zero injuries. Homer ventures further with Bart and Lisa to find the most dangerous ride: the Devil's Deluge.

Homer turns the water back on and grabs the kids for a dangerous ride, which ends with them splashing into some contaminated water. When they reunite with Marge and Maggie, their bellies feel strange, and they are taken to Springfield General Hospital.

To treat the issue caused by the water, Dr. Hibbert prescribes a four-week course of taxing Lorexo-Cortisone, a steroid with weight gain as a side effect. After four weeks, they have gained noticeable belly fat, just as the new school year begins.

Lisa starts feeling anxious about her body, especially after Marge calls her "chunky," while Bart gains popularity with the bullies in the Meat Castle, where they bulk up through exercise. Meanwhile, Marge assumes Lisa's anxiety is due to not having new school clothes and takes her to Springfield Mall. There, Lisa causes trouble at the Club Lounge after being told to wear clothes meant for 10-year-olds.

Back at home, Lisa slams the door and runs upstairs. Marge sends Homer to talk to her, and Lisa confesses that her real issue is caring too much about what people think. Homer tells her that not caring would mean not being human, and suggests that Patty and Selma might be able to help.

Patty and Selma teach Lisa how not to care with a song at the park, and Lisa begins meditating at home. However, when Marge apologizes, she unintentionally makes things worse by reminding Lisa that once the medication ends, she'll return to "normal" and be her "perfect" little girl again.

At King Toot's Music Store, Luann gives Marge the number for Dr. Wendy Sage, a hypnotherapist. Meanwhile, at school, Bart enters the castle only to find the bullies with their new girlfriends and leaves feeling left out.

At Wendy Sage's office, she uses a hypnowheel to hypnotize Marge and Lisa into exploring Lisa's mind, where they find a large mental sign labeled "chunky." They then travel into Marge's mind and discover a sign labeled "plain," left by her mother, Jacqueline Bouvier.

By recognizing their shared emotional wounds, the mental signs shrink, and both feel better. They wonder if everyone carries similar mental burdens, and multiple characters are shown with big signs in their heads—Homer having the most—while he lounges in a hammock.
