School Is Hell[edit]

• The segment title refers to one of the Life in Hell series of books written by Matt Groening.
• Martin has a copy of Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs.
• The iRunes app is a reference to iTunes.
• The blackboard in hell has repeated multiple times, "Eternal torment is the only just punishment for the unbaptized", a belief held by Saint Augustine, who applied it to babies.
• The Wilhelm scream is heard when the external shot of Hellroads is seen.
• "Hell Is for Children" by Pat Benatar plays during the montage of Bart in Hellroads.

A Clockwork Yellow[edit]

• The segment is a parody of A Clockwork Orange.
  • The "Title Music from A Clockwork Orange" plays over the opening and multiple times in the segment.

  • Marge is seen reading the novel A Clockwork Orange.
