Welcome![edit]
Hello, Randomno, and welcome to Wikisimpsons!
Thank you for taking an interest in our wiki. If you have any troubles, feel free to ask questions on any experienced editors' talk page. Also, you could look at a help page.
Here are a few pages to help out new editors such as yourself:
- Help pages, your first stop if you need any help
- Editing help, in case you have questions on how to properly edit articles
- Policy pages - Failure to abide by these will result in consequences.
Please sign your name on talk pages by using four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your name and the date. Signing your comments is important, as it lets other editors know who has posted which comments.
Again, welcome! Cook879 07:19, 22 January 2012 (EST)
Episode names[edit]
Hi, when linking to episode names, we use speech marks either side of them. i.e. "Good Night". This includes in reference tags etc. Thanks, ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 17:11, 27 January 2012 (EST)
Signature[edit]
Hi, your signature must actually state your username, it can't just be a blank box. Please read Wikisimpsons:Signature for more details. Thanks, ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 13:09, 29 January 2012 (EST)
- What about an expain template thing? | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 13:11, 29 January 2012 (EST)
- No, it must state your username without having to hover over anything. Sorry about that. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 13:11, 29 January 2012 (EST)
Template:Months[edit]
Hi, I deleted your template for Months and days. This was something we discussed a while ago and we decided against it in the end. We do, however, have the "On this day" template on the main page which fulfills the same function. Thanks, ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 14:55, 29 January 2012 (EST)
- Where's the discussion? When I saw I had a new message, I guessed it was about that. Otherwise, we need more year pages. We include guest stars births and deaths, but only on pages with episodes broadcast back then. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:28, 30 January 2012 (EST)
- It was decided at an editor meeting, although I can't remember which one (you'll have to look through the logs at Wikisimpsons:Editor meetings). And we won't be making any more year articles either as that would be kind of pointless. We do have the On this day template that does fulfill the features of the day articles though. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 10:37, 30 January 2012 (EST)
- That doesn't make sense, though. And the on this day template only shows today and is quite complicated for unexperienced users to look through. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:42, 30 January 2012 (EST)

Welcome templates[edit]
We use the "welcomeanon" template to welcome IP addresses. -- Mythigator 11:04, 6 February 2012 (EST)
- I spoke a bit prematurely. I think I see what you're trying to do (tweak the welcome templates, correct?), but the above is good to keep in mind, regardless. Sorry for any confusion! -- Mythigator 11:07, 6 February 2012 (EST)
- I know what to do. I was substituting that as you're supposed to. And I fixed your signature. I have had a live on Wikia, you know (which, yes you do (I hope)). | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 11:08, 6 February 2012 (EST)
- Thanks for the signature fix. I realized I screwed it up, but I didn't have time to do anything about it because I had to get to work. Again, sorry 'bout the misunderstanding with the welcome templates. -- Mythigator 15:12, 6 February 2012 (EST)
Lisa Simpson, This Isn't Your Life[edit]
The case was correct the way it was. -- Mythigator 12:55, 18 February 2012 (EST)
- I don't know if it is, but I can't find out whether it is or not. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 13:43, 18 February 2012 (EST)
- For episode and story titles, Wikipedia follows the convention I grew up with, which is to capitalize everything except articles, prepositions and conjunctions. With the title of the episode under discussion, Wikipedia capitalizes all of the words because none of them fall under any of those three categories. -- Mythigator 18:32, 18 February 2012 (EST)

Tapped Out on Wikipedia.[edit]
Randomno, I see you have a Wikipedia account. Can you make an article for The Simpsons: Tapped Out on Wikipedia? Thanks, Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 06:31, 17 March 2012 (EDT)
- Why would he do that? We are in competition with them you know. The Solar Dragon 06:37, 17 March 2012 (EDT)
- PHINBART!!!!! Randomno, don't listen to this nonsense. --Fred (Talk • Contribs.) 06:40, 17 March 2012 (EDT)
- Oh, right, hi. We're in competition with them? Anyway, people at Wikipedia don't make that many Simpsons articles, so I think Tapped Out would be in a list of Simpsons games. Still, Solar has an account too, and I don't have the game. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 06:42, 17 March 2012 (EDT)
- And Fred, you conflicted me. :| | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 06:42, 17 March 2012 (EDT)

The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a game for iOS, that was first released on February 17, 2012. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 06:53, 17 March 2012 (EDT)

SROAOF pics[edit]
Why are you uploading screenshots of "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire"? Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 12:26, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
- I'm going to try and do a lot more for episodes, so we can get our own framegrabs. Don't worry about the renaming part, I'll have that fixed when I do my next batch. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:29, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
- Erm...I think we should discuss having framegrab pages at the next editor meeting - which is on Saturday. I'll add it to the list. Good idea though - I had one of uploading scans of Simpsons World. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 12:31, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
- Well, there's no bad things about it, but I might wait until Saturday then. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:32, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
- No, there's no need to ask Cook879 to delete images - they can be kept on the wiki UNTIL Saturday and put on a framegrab page until the meeting where we will decide what to do with the framegrab pages. What were you planning to do on the framegrab pages? Were you going to implement the images with the <gallery> extension, or what? Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 14:01, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
- Yeah, I'll add them to /Framegrabs pages is the idea is successful. For the first image, I had previously put {{Delete}} on it as I thought it was a duplicate, but it wasn't. Anyway, they won't be deleted until further decisions are made. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 14:08, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
- By the way, I've made a framegrab page for 7G08. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 14:20, 21 March 2012 (EDT)

Prince family[edit]
Can you work on a family tree for the Prince family? Thanks, Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 07:33, 25 March 2012 (EDT)

Framegrabs[edit]
When are you going to upload more framegrabs? [1] Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 12:54, 29 March 2012 (EDT)

- Can you do the framegrabs now? ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 06:01, 11 April 2012 (EDT)

Family tree[edit]

- Okay, sure. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 04:52, 1 April 2012 (EDT)

- Sorry, got a "delay". | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 09:40, 1 April 2012 (EDT)
- Also, is there some way you could add Cletus and his family to the tree. According to a comic story, ("Feud, Glorious, Feud"), going back to the mid-1800s, Cletus and Homer are second cousins three times removed. ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 09:21, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
- Okay, I'm not brilliant on genealogy, I'll have to check WolframAlpha... | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:04, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
- I read this page on WolframAlpha, and Homer's great, great, great, great grandfather is Rupert Simpson. If you look at this image (the person who's name looks like "pert Simpson" is Rupert), there are no Spucklers. If Cletus was female it could work, but the only explaination is that there is another silbling in the tree, female, who married a Spuckler and had a child called Cletus. And, blimey, this means I have to add in all of the Spuckler children. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:21, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
- Remember, this is all non-canon. Also, the entire Spuckler family is second cousins three times removed to the Simpson family, not just Homer and Cletus. ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 04:11, 4 April 2012 (EDT)

Posh lady[edit]
Hi, what's the issue with the Posh lady article? I built it in the first place and I've been keeping an eye on it, so if there's something that needs attention, I'd sure like to know what it is. Thanks! -- Mythigator 11:05, 30 April 2012 (EDT)

- It's in a bit of a weird order for one. Some other things as well, including some weird sections about things. It just seems like an usual layout, mainly. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:26, 30 April 2012 (EDT)
- That occurred to me a couple of times when I added info to the article. It looks weird because of the two "prank monkey" incidents she blundered into. With the information I had at hand when I built it, they were the centerpiece of the article; now, with the added info, the whole layout of the History section looks weird. Let me attend to it and I'll see what sorting out I can do with it. Also, have you read the discussion about her name? Do you have any info indicating that it's really Mrs. Vanderbilt? If so, that will need to be attended to as well. As for having the Description portion first, that is a bit unusual, but I don't remember why I did it that way. For some reason, it made sense at the time. However, if the article's going to get a makeover anyway, it's no problem to relocate the Description section. -- Mythigator 12:58, 30 April 2012 (EDT)

- And have you had the same sort of discussion with Phinbart, whom you also just yelled at? You may understand it's a joke, but you can't assume that everyone you yell at has the same understanding. In cyber-etiquette, yelling in the way you're doing is not only considered rude, but also even possibly hostile. There's no way you can know how the person on the other end will interpret the yell. Therefore, would you please knock it off before someone misunderstands you and you trigger a row which someone else will have to straighten out? Thank you ... -- Mythigator 14:59, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

Locations category on images[edit]
I think you may be overusing the location category on images. What's your reasoning for putting it on an image? -- Mythigator 22:51, 20 May 2012 (EDT)
- Any images inpaticular? | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 02:21, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- One from "Radio Bart" that shows Bart falling down the well, and one from "Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife" that shows Homer and the other husband from the reality show (sorry, I forget his name at the moment) sitting at the bar in Moe's. I'm sure there are more images this conversation could be had about, but for now let's just focus on those two. -- Mythigator 03:01, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- The well Bart is falling down is a location; and the image is not supposed to just show Bart. The promo image had Moe's Tavern in the background; it was not a slate of Ricky Gervais (the guest star in the image). Anyway, I'll be back later today. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 03:25, 21 May 2012 (EDT)

I'm sure there are more images this conversation could be had about, but for now let's just focus on those two. -- Mythigator 03:01, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- That reasoning doesn't work, Randomno. Here's the problem: Suppose you have a collection of 200 books and you're sorting them into categories, let's say by putting labels on them like we put the category tags on the images on the wiki. Some of the books are hardbacks and some of them are paperbacks, so you label them accordingly; and then also create category labels for what genres the books belong to: fiction or non-fiction; sci-fi, adventure, fantasy, mystery, reference; and so on. But then, since the books all belong to you, you make a category label called "Randomno's books" and put it on all the books. The problem is that in doing so, you've just wasted a bunch of time because the category doesn't tell us anything new about the books. You can take a book down from the shelf and see that it has a label saying it's one of Randomno's books, but so what? We know that all of the books on the shelf belong to Randomno, so the category and labels you worked so hard to create are useless because they don't tell us anything we didn't already know. In order for the category labels in your book collection to be useful, they have to tell us something that makes that book (and others like it) different from the rest of the books in your collection. The "Randomno's books" label, therefore, is useless.
- On the wiki, strictly speaking, every image we have could be considered to be at a location, but if you apply that category to every image on the wiki, you make the category useless. Similar to the books example above: "It's got the Locations category, but so what? They've all got the Locations category." Therefore, you need to limit your use of the Locations category only to those images that do a good job of representing locations. For example (as Cook879 already mentioned), exterior views of Moe's Tavern and the well, or a "wide-angle" interior panoramic-style view of Moe's that shows a substantial portion of the inside. -- Mythigator 08:45, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- Myth, do you always have to use massive paragraphs when contributing to a discussion? Anyway, if somebody uses an example, I like to re-use that example.
- As you said, I could have 200 books and I want to put labels on them. Say one book is about a girl called "Alice" (coincidentally called Alice), one called Wonderland, and one called Alice in Wonderland. And let's say they all have the some cover; a picture of Alice in Wonderland. For the Alice book, I would label it "Characters", as it is supposed to show Alice, not the background. For the Wonderland book, I would put the "Locations" label on it, as it is showing Wonderland, Alice is just inside the land. Finally, for Alice in Wonderland, I would put both the "Characters" and "Locations" category on it, as the book is about both Alice and Wonderland.
- To sum up, if the image is about a location then use the locations category. If it is about a character put the character category. If it is neither of those in paticular, use both categories.
- Also, Myth, your example wasn't that good. Having a shelf of my books and putting a label on them is more of a comparison to the images category. If a viewer stumbles across an image, they know it is an image; they don't need a category to tell them. I'm quite happy I was able to write my own terribly long paragraph. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:58, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- What's wrong with long paragraphs? And you can't criticize Myth's example if that's the crap your pulling up.--Cook879 11:01, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- Not much, but he has a habit of writing them. Who says I can't criticize his example? My example was as good as his. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 11:04, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- I didn't say you couldn't, i was just calling your example crap. You're not focussing on the content of the image, instead on the name of the image. Wheter the files called "Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife promo", "Homer and Charles Heathbar" (that was his name right) or "Homer & Charles sitting in Moe's", the image is still the same and so category-wise it should not change.--Cook879 11:29, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- Fine, that's a bit of a point. Anyway, regardless of the name, it is still used on pages other than just the category page. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 11:38, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- <sarcasm>Take a look up in the sky, and you might see my point sailing completely over your head.</sarcasm> Read the paragraph again!! Granted, I am using a very simple example (a bookshelf) to explain something a lot more complicated (images on the wiki) so the example isn't perfect, but the point is that if you apply a category to every item, then it's useless. And if you can't grasp that, then you need to resign yourself to having a lot of your category additions reverted due to continued misuse of the Locations category. Your reasoning of "if it is neither of those in particular, then use both categories" is crap. Sorry, but that's how it is. -- Mythigator 12:21, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- I have already said what I think of your example. Say something about that. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:29, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- About what? Your ingratitude, or your example? Regarding your ingratitude, I took the time and trouble to explain what I was trying to say and you decided to get pissy about how long the paragraphs were. There's PLENTY I could say about that, but none of it would be nice. As for your Alice in Wonderland example, it shows that you have no clue about what Cook879 or I or anyone else has been trying to tell you about your overuse of the Locations category. Your reasoning is not only crap, but also is not consistent with how we've been using the image categories since long before you showed up here. What the hell else do we need to do to explain it to you, show up on your doorstep and do a singing telegram dance?! Sheesh!! -- Mythigator 12:42, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- I'm not convinced. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:47, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- Then prepare to be reverted every time you add an image and misuse the Locations category. If you're not going to come around to the already-established way of categorizing images, then that's the way things will have to be. -- Mythigator 12:51, 21 May 2012 (EDT)

- Then prepare to be reverted every time you add an image and misuse the Locations category. If you're not going to come around to the already-established way of categorizing images, then that's the way things will have to be. -- Mythigator 12:51, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- I'm not convinced. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:47, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- I have already said what I think of your example. Say something about that. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:29, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- Fine, that's a bit of a point. Anyway, regardless of the name, it is still used on pages other than just the category page. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 11:38, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- Not much, but he has a habit of writing them. Who says I can't criticize his example? My example was as good as his. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 11:04, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- What's wrong with long paragraphs? And you can't criticize Myth's example if that's the crap your pulling up.--Cook879 11:01, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
(resetting margins)I do have a clue how you're using the Locations category: INCORRECTLY!!! That's the important part, that's what Cook879 and I have been trying to explain, and that's what you seem to be too bloody thick to get. What part of "You're doing it wrong" do you not understand?! -- Mythigator 13:47, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- All of it. Who says I'm getting it wrong? And why should it be like that? Read my message left at 12:52. Also, Myth, I don't think you're taking this very seriously. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 13:51, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- 1) Established procedure, which Cook879 and I and others have been trying to explain to you, is what says you're getting it wrong. You got on my case (and rightfully so) about my use of quotation marks on Quotes tabs being against established procedure; now you need to return the favor and accept the same sort of correction with regard to how you're using the Locations category on images. 2) I've already explained it as simply as I know how. 3) Since I took the time to write an explanation long enough that you complained about its length, I have no idea why you think I'm not taking the topic seriously. Actually, since you're coming off as almost willfully thick-headed in responding to this particular issue, it seems to me that you're the one who's not taking it seriously. -- Mythigator 14:54, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- 1. It was your choice to accept the quotes thing, and we opened a wiki discussion anyway. This whole discussion is about how to use them. 2. Explain how you would use them, maybe using my Alice in Wonderland example. 3. "I do have a clue how you're using the Locations category: INCORRECTLY!!!" and the sarcasm bit. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 15:05, 21 May 2012 (EDT)

- All I'm going to say about #1 is that I accepted correction when the need was brought to my attention. You need to return the courtesy and do the same. (Wiki discussion didn't come into play until you decided to change the policy.) #2 and #3 I'll sort of combine: I get what you're saying about using the Characters or Locations category depending on which one(s) the image represents. Your Alice example actually shows that we're mostly on the same page in that regard. Where we disagree is you're saying that just because an image is at a particular location, it represents the location. Cook879 and I are saying that's not a good enough reason to say that the image represents a location. And also that if you use the Locations category in that manner you end up overusing it and rendering it useless: the category ends up not meaning anything because it ends up being on every image.
- Talking about a specific example might be useful. Please take a look at this image and, without changing any categories or adding any categories to the image, tell me whether or not you would put the Locations category on it, and why. -- Mythigator 16:00, 21 May 2012 (EDT)
- That's a bit of a tricky one, but I'd say characters and locations. The image is more centred around the tavern, but the characters are important features in the image as well. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 16:03, 21 May 2012 (EDT)

I ain't got time to revert (or do the other 10 images), but why did you add locations to each of the short images?--Cook879 13:30, 23 May 2012 (EDT)
- Mainly because Myth hasn't said anything else on this discussion so far. Anyway, I was going what I would usually do. I added the locations category to the images because you can see a location (I know we have been talking about this so please complain just now, please) in the image. I didn't add the category to Maggie's Brain image, though, as the only bit of a location you can see is a picture. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 13:41, 23 May 2012 (EDT)
- I haven't said anything else because I didn't know what else I could say that would convince you that you've been misusing the Locations category. But if you would, please tell how you would categorize this image and why. Maybe we can explain it better if we know what your thought process is behind applying the category labels. Thanks ... -- Mythigator 13:04, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

Hi, what episode did you get this from? Also, please archive, you're at almost 60,000 bytes. :P ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:56, 22 June 2012 (EDT)

Hello[edit]
I went to the page for Fat Man and Little Boy yesterday and it was an absolute mess, so I decided to clean it up a little. Could you help me, maybe? Word some things better would be a good start. And I don't remember every single detail of an episode so there's definitely still some stuff left out of the plot description. I'm sure there's the same problem with other articles for episodes around that time, but I like that episode (unlike stuff like On A Clear Day I Can't See My Sister), so I've decided to focus on that one first. Homer to the Max (talk) 15:56, September 1, 2013 (EDT)

Channel 4 censorship on Treehouse of Horror XIX today[edit]
Treehouse of Horror XIX was on today and they cut out the bit in the Grand Pumpkin segment with this: (cuts in bold)
The Grand Pumpkin walks toward Nelson. He looks terrified and then pulls a much smaller pumpkin off the table.
- Nelson: Touch me and I'll cut your friend!
- The Grand Pumpkin: What do I care? That's a yellow pumpkin.
- Nelson: *gasp* You're a racist!
- The Grand Pumpkin: All pumpkins are racist. The difference is, I admit it!
He picks Nelson up and starts to chew him, then swallows him whole.
- Nelson: I'd rather die than hate!
Could you help me by putting that bit in the page formatting properly, and fixing some of the wording? Thanks. Homer to the Max (talk) 16:42, October 22, 2013 (EDT)
- Hey, I'll try and put that in the page tomorrow - kinda busy at the moment. But, to be honest, you've formatted it more or less correctly. And good spotting - I don't really watch The Simpsons that much nowadays 'cause I'm so busy, and most of the time it's not on Channel 4. Keep watching! They'll sure to have more cuts up their sleeves! ~ The ghosts are here... polterbart is my name... (talk • contribs) 16:58, October 22, 2013 (EDT)
I need you[edit]
You always come up with a simple way that should be obvious to fix something I'm having trouble with. My theory is that my brain is too smart to think of the simplest way to fix things... Anyway, could you look at User:Solar Dragon/Sandbox and Template:THTColl? I'm trying to make the sections in Tapped Out character templates hideable to save on size. It's kind of worked but clicking on "Show" messes it up pretty bad. Also, when you go to edit it, the formatting of the page is all messed up. Thanks, ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 14:17, November 29, 2013 (EST)
- Hey, I'm also wondering if you could help me with this. I can't understand how to make the class=wikitable table into the not-so-new format. Thanks, ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 06:27, November 30, 2013 (EST)
