- The title of the episode refers to the Saga, which is a prose story and history composed in Iceland, and a main element in this episode.
- The Eastern Europe tennis players on the Woman's Doubles Final have names similar to those of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Petra Kvitová.
- The Icelandic Museum of National History has the shape of the Perlan building, a landmark in Reykjavík.
- A statue of famous Icelandic artist Björk is seen inside the museum. She is wearing the iconic swan dress she used at the 73rd Academy Awards.
- The Fjord Fjiesta rental car is a play-on-words of the Ford Fiesta and fjords.
- Some trolls and fairys are seen dancing around the car during the auroras night.
- Carl's car is a parody of a Mercedes-Benz.
- The song "Olsen Olsen" by the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós is heard when Homer, Lenny, Carl and Moe spent time together.
