- The episode title is a reference a quote from the third season of The Wire where Cutty says, "Game done changed." and Slim Charles responds, "The game's the same, just got more fierce."
- The game that Bart plays in the beginning of the episode is a parody of Assassin's Creed.
- The game Boblox is a parody of Roblox.
- Bobux are a parody of Robux.
- The Bobux symbol is very similar to the Bitcoin symbol.
- Some of the sound effects in Boblox come from Super Mario Bros.
- Bart tells Principal Skinner that they are playing The Oregon Trail and nobody's having a good time. Skinner then says that he doesn't see any oxen with dysentery.
- Hubert Wong has a Rolex fidget spinner.
