History
Groundskeeper Willie's Hawaiian Haggis Luau Surprise was one of the recipes in the cooking book Awesome Recipes from Springfield's Iron Chefs.
Ingredients
- 4 medium sheep's plucks (that's a stomach bag, yeh noodle-headed newbie!)
- 2 lb. dry oatmeal
- 1 lb. suet
- 1 lb. lamb's liver
- 2 1/2 cups stock (any kind will do)
- 1 large chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper, Jamaica pepper and salt
- 1 over-ripened pineapple
- 4 coconuts, sawed in two
- 1 raw turnip (to eat while yeh cook)
Preparation
Boil liver and parboil the onion, then mince them together. Lightly brown the oatmeal. Mix all ingredients together. Fill each sheep's pluck with the mixture, pressing it down to remove all the air.
Now sew up the sheep's stomach securely with synthetic cat gut.
Prick wee holes in the haggis in several places so that it does not burst. Place haggis in boiling water and boil slowly in a large metal pot for 4-5 hours.
Stuff one pluck per coconut, glue the coconut halves back together. Invite a dozen friends over for an "authentic" Highland Luau. Dress them in grass skirts and leis. Play "Bang the Coconut on Yer Head," a traditional Scottish/Hawaiian party game. Surprise! The first one to crack open the coconut with their noggin gets to eat the haggis!
