Emergency Broadcast System was an emergency broadcasting network used to transmit official information during Springfield's television crisis.

History

The Emergency Broadcast System remained operational after Springfield agreed to shut down all regular television broadcasts in response to Sideshow Bob's threat to detonate a nuclear weapon. While television stations across the city ceased transmission, Krusty the Clown discovered that he could continue broadcasting from a remote Civil Defense emergency station in the Springfield Badlands using the EBS. Believing he would become the city's only television entertainer, he launched an improvised live program featuring unscripted comedy and hastily assembled acts.

Sideshow Bob, who had been monitoring television from the Duff blimp, believed his campaign against television had succeeded until he encountered the Emergency Broadcast System transmission. Outraged that Krusty had found a way to remain on the air, Bob declared that even a nuclear weapon could not destroy television and immediately redirected his efforts toward killing Krusty. He attempted to crash an aircraft into the emergency broadcast station, but the attack failed, and authorities captured him.
