History

In local history, North Haverbrook is notable for being one of the victims of Lyle Lanley's Monorail Scam. Lanley hired Sebastian Cobb to build the monorail, and then (according to Cobb) cut corners throughout the construction process, using shoddy materials. The monorail ended up with extensive faults in its brakes and wiring. It crashed on its maiden run with celebrity guest Gallagher on board, injuring many people. The aftermath of the monorail disaster destroyed North Haverbrook's economy and left it resembling a ghost town.[1]

However, the town is also famous for exacting vengeance on Lyle Lanley. He was on a flight to Tahiti, having just sold another faulty monorail to Springfield, when his plane made an unscheduled stop at North Haverbrook. An angry group of townspeople, evidently alerted to his arrival, was waiting at the airport and boarded the plane as soon as it came to a stop on the tarmac. At the very least, they savagely beat up Lanley as he was heard screaming and the plane was seen rocking back and forth. Lanley's fate is unknown, but as he was never heard from again, it's possible that he was killed by the group of North Haverbrook townspeople.[1]

Soon after, North Haverbrook recovered from the monorail disaster, transforming from a virtual ghost town back into a flourishing community.[2]
