The Phantom of the Opera is a novel by French writer Gaston Leroux, originally serialized between 1909 and 1910. It tells the story of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opera House and becomes obsessed with a young soprano named Christine Daaé. The novel has inspired numerous adaptations across different media, including silent and sound films, television productions, stage plays, and musicals. Among its most notable adaptations are the 1925 film starring Lon Chaney and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 stage musical, which became one of the longest-running productions in Broadway history. The story has also inspired sequels, spin-offs, and other works that have expanded the franchise.
