Bartman - Part III: The Great Purple Hope is a Bartman comic story first printed in Bartman #6. It is the final part of a three-part series.

Synopsis

With his sisters now captured by the villain Canker, Bartman and Bartdog go to stop him and attempt to end Kent Brockman's misinformation campaign against Bartman.

Plot

In the Bartman Cave, Bartman finds that Santa's Little Helper has sneaked in. Bartman doesn't know how he's going to save Milhouse, Lisa the Conjuror, and the Great Maggeena with a sprained ankle. He then comes up with a plan and turns Santa's Little Helper into Bartdog, attaching him to a skateboard so the dog can pull him around town. Meanwhile, at Laff 'Til It Hurtz Novelties Factory, Lisa and Maggeena are holding onto the edge of the pit until Lisa can't hold on anymore. As they fall, Maggeena wedges her rattle in between the giant novelty teeth, stopping them. The sisters then scream and cry, letting Canker believe they have been defeated by the teeth.

Bartman and Bartdog enter the town and find the streets trashed and Bartman effigies burning. They then go to Channel 6 Studios so they can confront Kent Brockman. Bartman breaks down the door to the conference room and demands to speak with Brockman. Elsewhere, Dr. Olberman tells Mr. Burns and Waylon Smithers that two experimental androids were robbed from his lab. Mr. Burns dismisses him because he thinks unveiling his new superhero alter ego of Captain Industry, who he plans to lead Springfield as, is more important.

At Channel 6 Studios, Brockman leads Bartman through a secret passage and onto a film set, where he plans to unmask Bartman on camera. Canker's henchmen are also on the stage and Brockman tells them to unmask Bartman. However, they instead hand Bartman a note telling him to go to Laff 'Til It Hurtz Novelties Factory and then throw sneeze bombs into the audience, causing everybody to start sneezing. In the commotion, Bartman escapes. Bartman and Bartdog head to the factory to rescue everybody. Bartman breaks through the window and saves Milhouse. Bartdog then attacks Canker and unmasks him as Mr. Burns. Burns tells Smithers to do something, so he distracts the dog with a squeaky hot dog toy. Suddenly, an explosion comes from the pit and Lisa and Maggeena emerge with the giant teeth. They set the teeth on Canker's henchmen as Bartdog attacks Burns and Smithers, revealing them to be androids.

Bartdog picks up the trail of the criminal behind everything and leads the heroes to Lenny's house, where Lenny Leonard is revealed to be the mastermind. Lenny apologizes to Bartman and tells everybody that the constant dripping of nuclear waste over his workstation drove him insane temporarily. He stole the experimental androids from Dr. Olberman's lab and mounted a massive crime spree to try and discredit Mr. Burns. However, by the time he came to his senses, he realized that Kent Brockman had been blaming Bartman for the crimes and the town had gone crazy. Bartman then agrees to let Lenny Leonard off the hook if he can go to his house to play video games.

Days later, Homer is watching TV, where Brockman is still badmouthing Bartman. However, most of the townspeople no longer think Bartman is a criminal and ignore him. Elsewhere, Patty and Selma have kidnapped Bartdog and call Brockman from a payphone, wanting to make a deal.
