History
Gil told the students at Springfield Elementary School that they were going to sell Nutty Fun Time Peanut Brittle, and he told them that the best sellers would receive prizes depending on how much they sold. Selling five boxes earned them Scratch-and-Sniff stickers, ten boxes a stick that didn't smell, twenty boxes a glossy 8x10 photograph signed by Marvin Kalb, and fifty boxes ten thousand dollars in cash. The last prize was not announced by Gil but by Bart. Gil tried to explain that he had not said it, but the students didn't listen to him and became eager to sell the boxes. The students began to fight over who could sell the most boxes, and Bart was happy with what he'd done. Outside the school, Gil was crying because he couldn't afford the $10,000. He had planned to give a subscription to Amish Surfers magazine instead. Lisa discovered that Gil was sad and understood that Bart was behind the rumor.
Lisa tried to make Bart understand that he had to help her stop the kids from selling fifty boxes, but he refused until she pointed out that they'd have to destroy a lot of stuff to handle the task. Bart stopped the sale by explaining that if they managed to sell all the cookies, the school would be open for six days a week, removing summer vacation. The rumor began to spread, and all the students started destroying their boxes and littered the entire Springfield. The sale was over after a few days, and it turned out to be the worst sale ever. Principal Skinner was not happy with Gil because he failed. Meanwhile, the students were forced to clean up the debris that spread across the city.
