Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the TV series Stranger Things.
- Homer, Bart and Lisa eat Twinkies.
- The title of The Itchy & Scratchy Show episode, Open Sesame Street, is a reference to Sesame Street.
- Quirk Girl is a parody of the TV series New Girl. The characters Quirk Girl and Schultz are parodies of Jessica (the main character) and Schmidt. The actors from the series are voice actors for the characters. The song played by Quirk Girl at the end is a reference to the theme song of the series.
- Screaming Friends is a parody of the cartoon Smiling Friends.
- "A Mother's Heartbreak" is a parody of "When She Loved Me" by Sarah McLachlan from Toy Story 2. Sarah sings the song herself.
- Michael Keaton is on the cover of Partially Bald Monthly.
- Homer doesn't want Bart and Lisa to fall apart like Sweet and Grand Theft Auto from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. He also mentions Los Santos and Big Smoke. The next day, Homer plays the game on the TV.
