Cultural references[edit]
- The title is a reference to the film Brother from Another Planet.
- The title also refers to the fact that David Hyde Pierce, who voices Cecil, plays the brother of Kelsey Grammer's character, Frasier Crane, on the long-running sitcom Frasier.
- Krusty's prison concert is a reference to Johnny Cash's famous At Folsom Prison concert and album.
- The song he sings, "Cash and Cary", is a parody of "Folsom Prison Blues".
- Sideshow Bob sings the Christian hymn "Amazing Grace" at the prison church.
- The mention of American conductor Arthur Fiedler's wake is an apparent reference and parody of Frasier Crane's upper class Seattle lifestyle.
- Before the camera cuts to Bob and Cecil drinking wine in Cecil's apartment we see a title card done in the style of Frasier.
- Cecil's apartment is a reference to the apartment 1901 at The Elliot Bay Towers on Frasier.
- At his apartment, Cecil offers Bob a glass of Bordeaux wine. Cecil has wines from the Château Latour estate and from Château Rauzan-Ségla.
- Cecil attended Princeton University.
- When Cecil thanks his brother for taking him to Krusty's sidekick audition, Bob cites American humorist Erma Bombeck.
- Bob believes that Cappadocians considered being Chief Hydrological Engineer a "calling". This is a reference to the landscape of the region of Cappadocia, Turkey, where moving water from one site to another would represent a very difficult task due to its many rock formations.
- Bart lied to Lisa saying they were going to a Dairy Queen fast food chain restaurant. Instead, the kids went to search for clues to know what was Bob up to.
- When placing the dynamite, Cecil is singing "Top of the World", the famous song by the American pop duo The Carpenters.
- When Cecil tries to guess who is covering his eyes he mentions "Maris". This is another reference to Frasier, where Maris is Niles Crane's wife. Maris is actually never seen on the show.
Trivia[edit]
- In the flashback, Lois' hair didn't have a swirly bang.
Goofs[edit]
- When the crowd boos after Mayor Quimby defends the choice to release Bob, Ruth Powers has red hair instead of her usual brown hair.
- When Bart is praying, his Krusty poster depicts Krusty's face and beard colored yellow instead of white and tan respectively.
- While Sideshow Bob holds Lisa back, a piece of his blue shirt above his hand briefly turns red like his tie.
- As Bart block's Cecil's eyesight, a piece of Cecil's hair is briefly colored yellow, making him look partially bald.
