- The name of the episode is a reference to the TV series Stranger Things, however the episode is not a parody of it.
- Marge mentions the Oscars, Tom Brady and the Super Bowl.
- The book "One Fish, Two Fish, No More New Fish" is a parody of Dr. Seuss' "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish".
- Homer and Marge ride a Toyota Prius (XW20) as a rideshare car.

Goofs
- One of the promotional images for this episode have a photo showing a 10-year old Bart, a 8-year old Lisa and Maggie is visible in the background, though Bart is 6 years old, Lisa is 4 years old and Maggie is still unborn.
- Todd is a fetus despite being born and entertaining Bart while Lisa was born.
- In the after credits scene, the door to the secret room is shown to be above the inside of the garage. Homer would have had to be inside the garage to enter it, by climbing through the window.
