Cultural references
- The episode title is a pun on D. H. Lawrence's 1928 novel Lady Chatterly's Lover.
- The Monkeytown Philharmonic play "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss II on the kazoo.
- During Abe and Jacqueline Bouvier's conversation, Abe proposes applying "Lister's Carbolic Unguent" on Maggie. This is a pun on English medical scientist Joseph Lister and the carbolic acid (not unguent), which Lister introduced as a steriliser for surgical instruments and patients' skins.
- Bart, Lisa, Milhouse, and the rest of the family sing "The Dogs Kids Love to Bite" by Buck Warnick, an iconic 1967 advertising jingle for Armour Hot Dogs.
- Homer is seen carrying a ArmourTM ad sign.

Goofs
- When Bart looks through the mail slot, the delivery man with the animation cell has yellow skin, and is wearing a light brown shirt with dark brown pants. But when Bart steps out he has darker skin, and is wearing a blue jumpsuit. He still has the darker skin color when he punches Bart, but in the next shot he has yellow skin again.
