"Hey, wait a minute. That was the same day he was at Ticonderoga. How could he be in two places at once?"

Ticonderoga is town next to its namesake 18th-century fort in Upstate New York.

History[edit]

Bart was briefly expelled from Springfield Elementary and home schooled by Marge. While he was being home schooled, Bart took an interest in the book Johnny Tremain, which was set during the American Revolution, so Marge suggested they take a field trip to Olde Springfield Towne. The guide explained during a slideshow how Jebediah Springfield led a charge in the Battle of Ticonderoga, but he was also credited with whacking a snake on the first "Whacking Day" in 1775. Bart noticed a discrepancy and asked how Jebediah Springfield could have been whacking a snake in Springfield on the first Whacking Day and also at the Battle of Ticonderoga as both would have been on the same day: May 10th, 1775.[1]

At the end of singing "Upstate New York" Homer said, "Benedict Arnold fought here, baby." Arnold led the capture of Fort Ticonderoga, the Continental Army's first victory in the American Revolutionary War and the same battle Jebediah Springfield was supposedly at in 1775.[2]
