Trivia

• In this episode, it's shown that Krusty the Clown lives at 534 Center Street.
• In an earlier episode, Moe was shown to be afraid of Principal Skinner (possibly due to his authority), but in this episode, Moe appears to have over come his fear by delivering a hell of a punch to Seymour.
• The word "fuck" (bleeped) is said by Kent Brockman. This became the subject matter of the much later episode, "You Kent Always Say What You Want".
• The seminar in the episode is referenced by a sign on the Springfield Community Center in Level 1 of The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
• In the shot of the trampoline ad, other ads seen include: "Fat boy bomb: call Herman" and "Good new bible FREE!! ask for Ned".
• Among the rioting Springfielders are:
  • Snake Jailbird
  • Lenny Leonard
  • Otto Mann
  • Dewey Largo
  • Dr. J. Loren Pyror
  • Kim
  • Margarita (actress)

Cultural references

Wendell with yellow hair

• The scene with a field full of injured children from the trampoline is a reference to the field of injured soldiers shot in the film Gone with the Wind.
• When Homer pushes the trampoline off the cliff, it bounces on a pillar of rock right back up, lands on Homer and pushes him down into the overhanging rock ledge: an homage to the Chuck Jones-directed Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner Looney Tunes cartoons. The background and music imitate the desert landscape and music from the cartoons.
• At church, Reverend Lovejoy attempts to play the classic rag The Entertainer by Scott Joplin on the organ.

Goofs

• At night, Homer and Marge listen to some kids jumping on Homer's car. Marge then sits on the bed naked, but when the camera zooms to her face, a little portion of her nightgown is seen on her neck.
• Wendell's hair is yellow instead of its normal white color.
