"Frinkcoin" is the thirteenth episode of season 31 of The Simpsons and the six hundred seventy-fifth episode overall. It originally aired on February 23, 2020. The episode was written by Rob LaZebnik and directed by Steven Dean Moore. It guest stars Beanie Feldstein as the support group therapist, Ed "Too Tall" Jones as himself and Jim Parsons as himself.
Synopsis[edit]
- "Homer and Marge compete to be the topic of Lisa's "Most Interesting Person I Know" essay. Lisa instead chooses Professor Frink. While Lisa works on the essay, Frink develops a cryptocurrency, overtaking Mr. Burns' title of richest man in Springfield. With new fame, Frink struggles to know who his real friends are, while Mr. Burns schemes to take his title back."
Plot[edit]
The Simpson family eats at The Lentil Institution, a vegan restaurant, trying to win over Lisa so she will choose them for her "Most interesting person I know" paper. However, she chooses Professor Frink, who is devoted to helping the world through science.
At Springfield University, Lisa visits and interviews Frink. After explaining his life story, Frink tells Lisa he is developing a new cryptocurrency, Frinkcoin. He shows her a video of Jim Parsons explaining how cryptocurrency works.
Frinkcoin becomes famous, making Frink the richest man in town, which enrages Mr. Burns. However, Frink feels empty inside, so Lisa tries to help him. He moves from his university office to Chicago but still feels sad, so Lisa suggests Homer take him to Moe's.
Frink aces Moe's trivia questions and earns the respect and friendship of the barflies, while Smithers assembles a team of nerds to create Burns Coin. Burns becomes angry at Smithers for calling him Monty instead of Mr. Burns and seeks help at a support group.
Frink takes his new friends to Springfield's finest establishments, while Mr. Burns grows angrier at the nerds for being late. They create a formula to render all cryptocurrency worthless, but the calculations would take 90,000 years. Instead, Burns decides to break Frink's spirit.

Hank Azaria was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance in the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards for voicing Professor Frink, Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum, Carl Carlson, Cletus Spuckler, Kirk Van Houten, and the Sea Captain, but he lost to Maya Rudolph for Big Mouth.[1]
