Ragin' Abe Simpson and the Flying Hellfish in: War Is Smelly! is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #144.

Synopsis[edit]

Grampa tells Lisa the crazy story of how he single-handedly defeated the Nazis during World War II with the Flying Hellfish.

Plot[edit]

Lisa goes to the Springfield Retirement Castle to talk with Grampa. She tells him that she's there for a school project on World War II and wants Grampa to tell her about some of his experiences. Grampa is surprised that Lisa wants to actually hear his stories and begins to tell his story of how he saved a whole village from the Nazis as part of the Flying Hellfish.

Abe and the Flying Hellfish parachuted out of a plane, taking out two Nazi planes as they fell to the ground. His unit told him that he stank, and Grampa tells Lisa the reason for this. Before the war, Abe dated actress Lola Bonanza. However, on D-Day, Abe received a letter from Lola telling him that she cheated on him with Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, Gabby Hayes, and Shemp Howard. Abe then vowed to not take a bath again until they reached Berlin. He took out his anger on every German they came across and he still hadn't taken a bath when he landed with his unit in France. However, when the Hellfish landed, they were miles from their objective, the radio got busted when they hit the ground, and Abe lit his cigarettes with their secret orders. However, Montgomery Burns had a guide to the French Wine Country with him, so they used that to figure out where to go.

On the way to Beubeu Recherché, the Hellfish encountered the legendary haunted tank, which was haunted by the ghost of Oscar Wilde. They eventually made it to Ham Salad Hill, which housed a Nazi base led by the Iron Skull, the Clockwork Nazi, and the Terrycloth Major. The allied forces sent many of their bravest soldiers up the hill to take the base, including Sgt. Brick and Crazy Company, Sgt. Furry and his Howling K-9 Kommandos, and the Whitehawks. However, they were all defeated. Eventually, General Patton decided to send the Flying Hellfish in, against his better judgment. When they ascended the hill to the base, the unit immediately surrendered to the Nazis.

The Flying Hellfish were taken captive and Abe was interrogated by the commanders. He then noticed a signed photo of his ex, Lola. All three of the commanders confirmed that they had relations with Lola, so Abe broke out of his binds and single-handedly took out every one of the Nazis and rescued his unit. Abe was hailed a hero by the townspeople and then he found out the Nazi base was defending the Fromage de Dieux cheese which the village was famous for. Nazi reinforcements arrived, so the Hellfish and the village decided to surrender again while Abe put his plan in motion. One of the villagers led the Nazis to the cheese and they took a crate to Berlin for Adolf Hitler and his closest allies. In the fuhrer's dining room, Abe burst out of the crate and defeated the Nazi leadership. He then disguised himself as Hitler and escaped to Switzerland, after which he was given a medal by Dwight D. Eisenhower.

As Grampa finishes telling his story, Lisa looks disappointed and says that she's done. As Lisa leaves the Retirement Castle, she throws the tape in the bin, thinking it is worthless. Disappointed with her reaction, Grampa talks to Jasper about Lisa not believing him and wishes that there was a way to prove he was telling the truth to her. Meanwhile, in Beubeu Recherché in France, the woman who led the Nazis to the cheese, who is now old with grandkids, sees the statue of Abe that was erected after he saved the village. She tells her grandkids that the statue is of the hero of Beubeu Recherché and wonders what had become of him.
