Cultural references[edit]

• In the opening cutscene, the Moe-orc says "Oh, for the love of Sauron", a reference to The Lord of the Rings.
• Mario and Sonic both appear escaping from the Game Hub. Mario later appears at the Simpson house.
• Lisa builds a "Stairway to Heaven", to which ghost-Otto says, "I hope the stores aren't all closed", referencing the Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven".
  • The fact that Lisa uses her Hand of Buddha to build a tower to Heaven may be a reference to the Tower of Babel.
• William Shakespeare guards the gates of Heaven. Bart complains about his "John Grisham fancy talk".
• When Lisa points out that Shakespeare is the "Bard of Avon", Marge says that she loves Avon, a reference to Avon Products.
• The music played during the fight with Shakespeare is "Coro di zingari" from Giuseppe Verdi's opera Il trovatore.
• The giant gold controller at the arcade is an Atari 2600 controller.
• An arcade machine is named The Greatest Story Ever Played, a reference to the 1965 epic religious film The Greatest Story Ever Told.
• One of the houses is named "House of Hendrix". Another house features a large sign that says "Reserved For Elvis". The Elvis sign resembles the one seen when entering Las Vegas.
• Skybucks Coffee is a parody of Starbucks.
• Benjamin Franklin guards the gate to God's house.
• In the Nintendo DS version of the game, when fighting Benjamin Franklin, Lisa uses lightning on Franklin's kite, referencing a fictional explanation of how he died.
• The music played during the Dance Dance Revolution game is a remix of "Rock You Like a Hurricane" from the rock group Scorpions.
• God's consoles are references to real video game consoles.
  • The "Praystation" is a parody of the PlayStation 2.
  • The "Xodus Box" is a parody of the Xbox 360.
  • The "Hii" (Xbox 360 version) and the "i Am" (PS2 version) are parodies of the Nintendo Wii.
• When God is defeated, a "blue screen of death" with a bomb icon appears that Bart tears away.
• When God is pleading with Bart not to destroy his save games (on the ∞Mb memory card), he pleads, "I'm on the final boss fight of Oblivion, I can't start again from the beginning!". The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has hundreds of hours of gameplay.
• Bart calls God "Birkenstocks", a maker of sandals.
• God says Planet Earth got a score of 96 on Meta-Metacritic.
• The trophy Bart collects in this level is the movie The Passion of the Krust, a parody of The Passion of the Christ.
• The trophy Marge collects in this level is the "Hairway to Heaven" hairspray, a second reference to the Led Zeppelin song.
• In the Nintendo DS version of the level, Tetris are seen.

• In the arcade area, "Bible Blaster" and "Touch of Death" are seen. ("Alone Again, Natura-Diddily" and "When Flanders Failed").
