• The episode title is a reference to the film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.
• The entrance hall carpet in The Henry L. Waterpark Mansion and Museum is a reproduction of one that Mr. Waterpark saw on a trip to Utrecht in the Netherlands.
• Seymour Skinner mentions the Wilton pattern, a machine-woven, highly decorative carpet pattern that became popular in the Late Victorian era.
• To avoid getting bored, Bart carries out a "Gilded Age home invasion".
• There is a sable felt from the Edwardian era at the mansion.
• The snow globes found at the Alice P. Waterpark Collectorium room include:

• Gaelic Scrabble is a parody of Scrabble and uses real Scottish Gaelic words, although double-score words are written in English.
• Hub is based on Neil, and his father is based on Neil's father from the movie Dead Poets Society. Kurtwood Smith voiced both Hub and Neil's father. Kurtwood was suggested by Michael Price based on their early work together on F Is for Family.^[1][2]
• Chalmers tells Skinner that the state will turn the school into a Spirit Halloween store if they find out that Hub has been squatting in the school.
• Hub tells Skinner that his parents died when their hot-air balloon drifted over to North Korea on Kim Jong-un's birthday and was hit by a celebratory ICBM.
• Hub addresses Skinner as Darth Tedious, a parody of Darth Sidious, in the voice of Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi, all from Star Wars.
• Hub tells Nelson that his parents died on the Titanic.
• Skinner buys his clothes at Mr. Ho-Hum's Clothiers from the Chuck Schumer collection.
  • The three mannequins are all wearing Chuck Schumer-type eyeglasses, perched low as his are.
• Skinner's record of "dogs singing Christmas carols" that Hub scratched up is a reference to The Singing Dogs barking out "Jingle Bells", a big hit in 1971.
• When Hub escapes from the fitting rooms, Skinner exclaims "by Doug Henning's mustache." Henning was a Canadian magician, illusionist, escape artist, and politician.
• Things Dismembered Watch Repair is a reference to the gift retailer Things Remembered.
• Forever XXXVI is a parody of the fashion retailer Forever 21.
• Arcade games at Luigi's Pizza Playland:
  • Time Waster, a parody of the Time Crisis series of light-gun shooter games.
  • Triangle Wars, a parody of the original Asteroids arcade game. The cabinet uses the Star Wars font.

• In the car, Hub barks along to the Christmas song "Jingle Bells".
• Skinner tells Hub that he's talented, then says "look out, Perry Como." Hub then says that he likes how Skinner knows people he's never heard of, and Skinner says "spoken like a young Mort Sahl," presumably another person Hub has never heard of.
• During the montage at home, the theme song of the TV series Room 222 plays.
• Skinner plays a Meet the Press pinball machine. The machine has a parody of the NBC logo on it.
• A Peter Rabbit-themed musical is held at Springfield Elementary School. Hub got a role as Farmer McGregor while Martin plays Peter Rabbit.
• When Martin sarcastically calls Hub "Olivier", he is alluding to Sir Lawrence Olivier.
• Skinner and Hub went to see laser Beethoven.
• The school has a Spalding Dirk Nowitzki autographed basketball.
• Lisa says that she gets to be every eight-year-old's hero, screenwriter Steven Zaillian.
• Skinner tells Ms. Peyton that Hub's parents had Benjamin Button's disease and died as 85-year-old babies.
• Just before the play starts, "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" plays.
• Skinner mentions Marlon Brando and Balki Bartokomous to Hub, saying that they also got butterflies when they had to perform.

Trivia[edit]

• Nelson previously egged Skinner's father's grave in "The Debarted", but in this episode his ashes are in a bag in Skinner's house.
