SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television program created by Stephen Hillenburg (1961-2018), who was a marine biologist and animator. It has been airing since May 1, 1999 on Nickelodeon. The two series have referenced each other numerous times.

A female fish in funeral attire begins to cry and mourn Squiduardo's death. In the parody, Roberto lived in a watermelon under the sea, rather than a pineapple under the sea as in the actual series.
