The Washington Monument is a monument in Washington, D.C. Its designer is Robert Mills.
History
The Simpson family visited here when they were traveling around Washington, D.C.[1]
Homer includes Robert Mills in The Lazy Hall of Fame for "[putting] so little thought and effort into designing a monument", yet getting a lot of money for it.[2]
Behind the Laughter
In real life, a competition was held in 1836 for designs for the Washington Monument. Mills was the winner and the prize was $500, equivalent to about $12,500 in 2013 (when Homer Simpson's Little Book of Laziness was published).
