Synopsis[edit]
- When Marge worries about Maggie not being baptized, Homer searches for a godfather for her. After Fat Tony saves Homer and Maggie from a falling piano, he is offered the role of godfather. However, the mafia business raises safety concerns for the young Simpson.
Plot[edit]
At The Overpriced World of Angelica Button park, the Simpson family is stopped by a person dressed as Headmaster Greystash, who asks them to try the "categorize cap" to see which school of magic most suits them. Homer is placed in Grizzledum, who hate Pufflesnuffs, and he gets into a fight with them before being chased. Marge decides to check on Grampa and Maggie at home, while the rest of the family gets on the Cauldrons of Chaos ride. After Bart spins the cups wildly to convince Homer to spend money at the gift shop, he presses the emergency button and gets dropped off at the Gift Shoppe.
After spending money there, they return home to find Grampa holding Snowball instead of Maggie. Luckily, Ned knocks on the door with her. When they mention Maggie hasn't been baptized, Ned declines their request to be her godfather because he already has too many children.
Marge becomes tormented over the prospect of Maggie going to Hell and has a nightmare of the Devil dragging her down, with Bart already there and Milhouse as a second head.
Marge then forces Homer to search for a godfather for Maggie. He first visits Moe's, but finds Lenny, Carl, Moe, and Barney unfit. Then he tries the Springfield Police Station, but quickly dismisses Wiggum due to how he raised Ralph. Just then, when a piano is dropped on them by Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Fat Tony saves them, attributing it to the Blessed Mother.
Impressed by Tony's religious side, Homer reluctantly offers him the role of godfather. When he brings the news to Marge, she is furious due to Tony's criminal past. Tony soon arrives, gifting them a Ferrari Protect-a-Rossa stroller to replace their old one, a new Luxus SUV, and promises more gifts for Maggie.
The baptism takes place at the First Church of Springfield, with Selma as the godmother. At Luigi's, Tony's dedication to Maggie and teaching her about religion starts to win Marge over. Legs and Louie become Maggie's babysitters, and Maggie begins acting like a mob boss herself. Johnny Tightlips notices Tony's growing attachment to Maggie and discusses it with Don Castellaneta and others.
Tony arranges for Maggie to attend the Preschool for the Performing Arts, but forces the family to attend Sunday church, making them consider backing out. Homer can't bring himself to end things, and Tony invites them to Itchy & Scratchy's Christmas on Ice. At the Springfield Mall, Tony opens a new shop, the Bambino Depot, prompting Johnny, Louie, and Legs to plan action against him.
At the preschool, Marge notices changes in Maggie and imagines her starting a fire in a changing room with a man tied to a chair. Marge asks Tony to stay away from Maggie, but Tony proposes he be given one more day to prove he's left the mafia.
At the Springfield Sports Arena, preparations are underway for Christmas on Ice, with mafia members hiding guns throughout the venue. Tony buys out the arena for Maggie, ensuring no witnesses. Marge proposes that she become Maggie's "mama" instead of Tony being the godfather, but he refuses.
However, when Itchy is revealed to be Johnny in disguise, betraying Tony, Tony beats him with a gun. Seeing Maggie's horrified reaction to his return to mafia life, Tony steps down as her godfather after changing her diaper one last time. Louie and Legs bury the diaper afterward.
