Vigilante Group

The Vigilante Group was a group formed to watch the neighborhood and reduce crime.

History[edit]

After a crime wave hit Springfield, many people reported having personal items stolen, including Lisa's saxophone. The spree was the work of a cat burglar who left his business card at the crime scene. Despite this clue, the police were powerless to catch him as they were overwhelmed by the surge in crime. Homer decided to take matters into his own hands to recover Lisa's stolen saxophone.

The people of Springfield attended a neighborhood meeting at Flanders' house, where Ned suggested starting a Neighborhood Watch. They chose Homer as the leader, and he formed a vigilante group. However, instead of reducing crime, the group caused more problems than they prevented. While petty vandalism, such as graffiti, decreased by 80%, heavy sack beatings increased by a shocking 900%.

When they discovered the burglar's next target was the world's largest cubic zirconia at the Springfield Museum, Homer organized a stakeout. Unfortunately, he became distracted by a group of underage kids drinking. Instead of monitoring the museum, Homer joined the kids' party and got drunk, allowing the cat burglar to break into the museum and steal the zirconium.

Following this failure, all of Homer's vigilante group members quit, and the townspeople turned against him. Grampa then revealed that he knew the identity of the cat burglar: Molloy, one of his fellow residents at the Springfield Retirement Castle.

The townspeople confronted Molloy, who freely admitted his guilt, politely returned their stolen items, and apologized for his crimes.
