The United States State Department is an executive department responsible for the country's foreign policy and relations.

History

After Bart Simpson's prank calls to Australia developed into a diplomatic dispute, the United States State Department intervened directly through official Evan Conover, identified as an undersecretary handling international protocol matters involving minors. Conover visited the Simpson family to explain that Bart's actions had damaged already strained U.S.–Australian relations and negotiated an arrangement under which the family would travel to Australia so Bart could issue a formal public apology to Australian authorities.
