Location Information
|
The United States Air Force Base is a base in Springfield for the Air Force portion of the United States Armed Forces.
The commanding officer was Colonel Leslie Hapablap, and contained at least one Harrier jet and an F-15 Fighter. Known locations were a Nuclear Warhead Storage Facility, the CO's office, Colonel Hapablap's private restroom, an underground War Room, and several hangars. It was also a host to air shows.
History[edit]
Sideshow Bob and several inmates were taken to the Air Force Base to clean up litter on the grounds in preparation for the annual air show (including condom wrappers). However, Bob was left behind and decided to use his knowledge of the base to his advantage in his vendetta against television. Meanwhile, the Air Force personnel began bringing in several vehicles, including the Duff Blimp and the Wright Brothers' plane (the latter of which was presumably on loan from the Smithsonian Air Museum).
Sideshow Bob then tricked Colonel Hapablap into giving him a sample of his personality by locking Hapablap out of the restroom and pretending to use it so he could mimic his voice later. Bob then arrived at the Warhead Storage Facility and tricked the guard—mimicking Hapablap in the process—into going over to Chuck Yeager's Akura to clean it, claiming that McGuckett had allegedly sprayed it with runway foam. After the guard left, Bob snuck inside and retrieved an antiquated atomic bomb. He then sneaked into the Duff Blimp and ironically hacked into the Tyrannovision to broadcast his threat: either Springfield completely eliminated television, or he would detonate the atomic bomb.
Colonel Hapablap and several members of the Springfield government, including Mayor Quimby, conducted a long but fruitless search for Sideshow Bob. Ultimately, they met Bob's demands and removed television throughout the town. However, Krusty refused to comply and created a rogue television broadcast from a shanty, taking advantage of the lack of competition to monopolize 100% of the airtime.
Sideshow Bob then decided to carry out his threat, but Lisa and Bart Simpson tracked him to the blimp after realizing he had accidentally spoken in a high-pitched voice due to inhaling helium. He detonated the bomb anyway, but due to its expiration date—best used before November 1959—it only released an extremely tiny mushroom-shaped smoke cloud, triggering the blimp’s fire alarm. Lisa used the blimp's electronic billboard to alert everyone to Bob’s location and send an SOS signal, causing the police to surround the blimp.
Bob then took Bart hostage at knifepoint and deflated the blimp before rushing to a Harrier jet and hijacking it. However, he was unable to pilot it for long before crashing into a ditch. He escaped before the authorities could arrest him and stole the Wright Brothers' plane. When Bart gloated that the police’s hooks would catch Bob if they themselves could not, Bob revealed that he had no intention of escaping. Instead, he planned to carry out a kamikaze attack on Krusty’s shanty.
Bart warned Krusty to evacuate the shanty and run far away. However, Bob’s plan failed because the antiquated plane lacked the power to destroy the structure. Colonel Hapablap, along with the Springfield Police Department and the Air Force, then arrested Sideshow Bob, with Hapablap demanding to know what Bob’s major malfunction was.
